Don’t Bother Removing Asbestos From Your Atlanta House

Asbestos is a heat-resistant and insulating material which is used in the manufacture of hundreds of products. It is a naturally-occurring soft, fibrous mineral.

In years past, asbestos was used in materials found in homes, such as in vinyl flooring tile, cement, adhesives, tape, sealants, roofing materials and more. While asbestos is still used to manufacture certain products, most products previously found in homes have been discontinued.

Asbestos is not banned in the US, but most products mentioned above have been discontinued. While these products are no longer being installed or made, older homes still contain asbestos, and if disturbed, the materials could be dangerous to anyone exposed to them. During home remodeling, this is the most likely time this lurking asbestos could be unleashed.

Asbestos abatement in an older home can be quite expensive, potentially running into the tens of thousands of dollars. And if you own such a home, you may find it difficult to sell your home because prospective homeowners are fearful of the risk. Given the choice between new construction that does not contain asbestos, or homes that have had their asbestos removed or a home that does contain asbestos, home buyers are almost certainly going to choose an asbestos-free home.

If asbestos has become a stumbling block for selling your home in the Atlanta area, Resideum can help. We purchase homes in all kinds of conditions, including older homes that contain asbestos. If you have tried selling a home the traditional way, only to have a home inspector find asbestos and scare away your potential buyers, we understand your frustration! This is the exact type of project we like to take on.

Resideum likes a challenge. We buy houses with problems: fire, water damage, mold, rotting wood, termites, tornado and yes, even asbestos.

Get in touch with us, provide a little information about your house, and we will make you a cash offer right away. We can close and provide you with cash in as little as seven days. You walk away from the asbestos problem, and move on with your life.

In the video below, Greg Kurzner and Brent Bagley take on the asbestos in one of our recent home purchases.

Greg Kurzner:

Hey guys. Brent and Greg are on our way to go doing some asbestos removal.

Greg:

Hey Guys. It’s Greg.

Brent Bagley:

And Brent.

Greg:

From Resideum, and today’s Saturday. We’re out here at our property on Redland in Collier Hills. Right?

Brent:

Yep.

Greg:

And our job today is to do a little DIY. We’re going to be removing some asbestos, which normally you have an asbestos company doing. But because we’re the owner, we’re allowed legally to do it. And that’s what we’re going to do: we’re going to follow all the protocols, gear up and we’ll be back in a minute with our cool gear on. See ya.

Greg:

All right, guys, we’re getting ready to go in. We’re ready. We just have a little bit of asbestos to remove on some ducting in the basement and some floor tiles. No big deal, but we are safety first. So we have all of our safety equipment. Kind of aim down and got our masks and got our gloves. We got all the stuff we need to get rolling. So here we go. We’ll see what it looks like when we’re finished.

Greg:

We are adding this surfactant. This keeps it from going into the air.

Greg:

All right, so job one is down. We’ve removed the flooring that had the asbestos glue down upstairs, and the second and final part of our mission today is to take the sections of ducting that have asbestos-based tape around them. And to do that, we’re going to encapsulate and use the surfactant to make sure we don’t have any kind of friable. And then we’re going to cut the sections out and we’re going to secure them in thick mil bags and then we’ll dispose of them as we plan to in the landfill in Cartersville.

Greg:

Brent, our willing participant, is going to be taking the lead on this one. And you guys can see it’s this hard ducting where you see that sort of grayish tape. That is the culprit. There isn’t a ton of it, but there’s enough of it where we need to go ahead and get it done so that is coming out. And next time you will see what it looks like when it’s missing.

Greg:

All right, don’t, don’t leave me in here.

Greg:

Next time you got to go in.

Greg:

Wow, that was a lot more work than we thought it was going to be. But you can kind of see now that the old duct work is all gone. There’s my partner in crime. Come on in and flip around so you guys can see where it was. Brought it all out there. It was actually in here as well in the crawl space. I know you can’t believe it, but I actually fit through there and we took it all the way out, the old air conditioning system and removed all of those things all the way to the rest of it.

Greg:

The silver one you see in there, that one doesn’t have the asbestos tape, just the hard one. And there are all the bags that are going to be bagged up, sealed and taken to the dump site.

Greg:

We don’t look our best, but thank God we have our [muffled] it’s easier to talk without, but…

Greg:

Hey, guys.

Brent:

Hi ho!

Greg:

All right. I’m tired. Are you tired?

Brent:

Yeah!

Greg:

That was more work than I thought. But it’s done. We’re proud of ourselves. We have “asbestosized” our house. We’ve done it very safely and securely. Followed all the protocols. Everything’s bagged and tagged and we’re safe and sound. Masks. I tell you what, the hardest thing for me is that that I think…

Brent:

Yes. The goggles.

Greg:

You sweat in it. Like you smoke up. It’s terrible.

Brent:

Yeah.

Greg:

Anyway, we’re done and hopefully we’ll start seeing more progress now. So until next time. Take care.

Brent:

See y’all.

Greg:

Bye.
